Beenie Man, I-Octane, Teejay & More Dancehall Artists Who Lost Weight

Beenie Man, I-Octane, and Teejay are among several dancehall artists who used the pandemic time off to lose weight.

The pandemic years were definitely the years for getting in shape, and many of our favorite Dancehall artists are among those who have been using the downtime from the pandemic to get in shape. Among those who entered 2021 noticeably slimmer were Teejay, Beenie Man, I-Octane, and Jada Kingdom. The secret to their success, dieting and exercising regularly.

Beenie Man weight loss

For Beenie Man, the impetus to lose weight came after his Verzuz battle with Bounty Killer last May. The deejay was mercilessly teased for his protruding stomach and being out of shape. Following the show’s airing, Beenie’s “belly” was the talk of social media and even became a trending topic on Twitter. The relentless teasing motivated the artiste to start on a fitness regime with then partner Krystal Tomlinson.

Beenie Man began working out regularly and also changed his diet. The result- a year later is that the Doctor is back to his slim physique and looking healthier than he has in years. Beenie Man said he lost a total of 15 inches from his waist.

I-Octane weight loss

The Hot Ras is back! I-Octane is another entertainer that seems to be living his healthiest life this year. The “Puff It” deejay dropped his rather puffy look for a new and improved physique, and fans are loving it. In March, the singer shared a before and after photo on his Instagram page showing a drastic reduction in his weight. He said he had lost a total of 90 pounds in four months, moving from a whopping 255 pounds at his heaviest down to 165 pounds.

According to the singjay, the transformation was motivated by negative comments from fans on his social media pages. Giving up eating his favorite comfort foods and improving his diet were major aspects of the process. However, it was his work with celebrity trainer Patrice White that really helped with shedding those pounds. White has also worked with the likes of Elephant Man and Beenie Man.

Jada Kingdom weight loss

Jada Kingdom is the next entertainer that has tongues wagging owing to a major transformation in her appearance. Jada, who has been spending much of her time in America with her hubby, has been showing off her smaller was waist and overall slimmer physique. Jada, who proclaimed herself “Mumma Heavy,” was the subject of several rumors due to what seemed a rather quick weight loss. Critics of the artiste alleged that severe drug use could be the reason for her new figure.

Jada Kingdom has, however, come out and defended her weight loss while denouncing the rumors about her alleged drug use. She mentioned that her significant weight loss was the result of three years of consistent fitness training and improving her diet. The singer revealed that she has tried both pescatarian and vegan diets in her quest to slim down. Removing foods such as rice while increasing her water intake dramatically helped with her 3-year battle. The real question of the day is, can we still refer to her as Mumma Heavy? Of course, we can.

Teejay weight loss

Romeich Entertainment signee Teejay also took a seat on the fitness train, and by the looks of it, he was definitely riding in one of the more elaborate coaches. The singer, who was noticeably chubby when he broke onto the Dancehall scene, is looking a lot slimmer these days. Back in October 2020, Teejay revealed that he lost a total of 50 pounds. His weight loss regime? A rather unusual one – eating crackers and drinking water.

The Uptop Boss said his complete transformation took just a little under three months. Shocking! It’s not clear if exercise was a part of his regiment since the deejay has never actually showcased himself in a fitness center. Deejay’s transformation is definitely spectacular, but a diet of crackers and water may be a little too drastic for others to follow.

Bling Dawg weight loss

While he has not been trending on the musical scene for a while, Bling Dawg is another entertainer who has debuted a dramatic change in his appearance. The usually heavy-set artiste is now slim, muscular, and looking like a man of steel. Bling’s transformation did not come overnight.

Bling Dawg, who took a three-year hiatus from the business leading up to last year, worked out for months to achieve his new body. He has also posted images of healthy meals, which we are assuming helped in his transformation. We wouldn’t have any complaints if Bling decided to switch his moniker to Bull Dawg, just saying.

It seems dancehall entertainers are already reading not just their musical catalogs but also their bodies for a full reopening of some of the world’s biggest stages. It could also simply be a way for them to feel better in their own skin while keeping their health in check.

Jada Kingdom Addresses Suicide Rumors & Speak On Weight Loss

Jada Kingdom has once again taken to social media to address rumors claiming that she tried to commit suicide.

The dancehall singer took to Instagram live, alongside a friend, to speak about several stories that have been circulating in the media in recent weeks. The first issue she touched on was rumors of her having had plastic surgery. Jada Kingdom said, “Bear in mind a so gyal born, shape good run inna the family.”

Checking to ensure that her friend was understanding her patois, Jada Kingdom continued, “Shape good run inna the family. Wi never just walk and just pick it up so, a God gi wi. So it did unda deh areddi, girl did just thicka dan she fi thick. And gyal did look nice from morning. Period.”

“So everybody inna mi inbox a talk bout how mi do surgery pon mi stomach, f**k you!” the singer added.

Jada Kingdom then went on to make a shocking revelation, telling viewers that she had been diagnosed with diabetes in 2016, in addition to suffering from bipolar depression. She said, “I was eating a bunch of foolishness, everything fried. Rice was my best friend.” She explained that her weight would fluctuate weekly, and due to being depressed nothing mattered to her.

“I was ready to die,” the singer said. “To be honest mi give thanks fi Verse because if a neva fi Verse, honestly mi feel like mi woulda like lost certain way. Verse literally is like one of the best thing weh eva happen to mi inna mi entire f**king life.”

She spoke on eating better, doing liquid diets, becoming a pescatarian for over two years, and generally starting to take better care of her body. Now that she is a better version of herself, Jada said people are just stuck on who she was in the past.

Addressing rumors of skin bleaching, she stated, “Mi nah bleach. Eat clean, live clean, pray, trust God, that’s it.” She again dismissed rumors that she was doing drugs, saying her personality is just naturally lit. The singer recently posted another video on her Instagram story where she cursed out haters for spreading rumors that she was taking cocaine.

Jada also dispelled rumors that she was beefing with another female artiste, saying, “I ain’t got no beef with nobody.”

On the matter of her alleged hospitalization and subsequent suicide watch placement, the Dancehall singer said this was an outright lie. “This rumor was going around, saying I was in the hospital, that I tried to commit suicide, that’s a lie. That’s a f**king lie. I needed a social media detox and I took a two week break and that was the best two weeks of my f**king life. You guys should try it,” she added.

The singer ended her live video by warning fans to be careful who they trust. She also encouraged persons interested in music not to give up, as they will encounter challenges and have failures, but they should remain determined.

On a lighter note, Jada and her friend also showed off some dancing skills as she hopped onto Spice’s #GoDownDeh challenge. Wining her waistline and showing some serious knee strength, Jada bellowed, “Yuh nuh bad like mi Spice, Yuh nuh bad like me,” while her friend cheered her on. Sadly Jada wasn’t able to keep up as she hilariously fell over onto the ground.

Spice reposted the IG Live clip and added the caption, “@jadakingdom yuh see me ? Mi don’t trouble people until dem trouble me, and yuh see how mi never trouble you and yuh call up mi name say mi no bad like Yuh? Aright den WATCH MI AND YUH (When mi wake up later) #godowndehchallenge get serious now.”

Jada Kingdom Finds A Way To Drop New Music Amid Lawsuit

When you can’t beat them, join them. It seems dancehall singjay Jada Kingdom has decided to follow this old adage in hopes of getting away from her current record label. She’s reportedly found a loophole that she believes will help her to start back releasing new music as she continues to battle against her former manager.

Earlier this year, in February, she opened up about some of the obstacles she was facing. She also let fans know that she wouldn’t be releasing music anytime soon, mostly because of what she called “industry politics” and a lack of management.

The “Green Dreams” singer has somehow found a way to put out new music. She elatedly shared the news with her followers on Instagram yesterday (May 3).
“Since I can’t release any new music yet, mi aguh remix some of my fav songs right now,” she wrote in an Instagram Story. “Let’s go crazy!” she added. She also revealed what the first remix would be.

Jada shared that the first remix, due any day now, will be “D’yani’s Feelings,”. As with most loopholes, there’s a catch. “The artist of the original song will be uploading my remix,” Jada Kingdom said, before adding “YOUTUBE ONLY. Badmind yuh cyah stop mi!!!”

RELATED: Jada Kingdom Hit With Defamation Lawsuit By Her Manager

Jada Kingdom received a lot of media attention recently, mostly because of an ongoing legal battle with her former management team, Pop Style. She was with the company for the last four years. Even though it’s not clear when they became angry with each other, the company has already filed a defamation lawsuit against the artist. The lawsuit, which was filed last month, claims that she allegedly made libelous remarks about them during an Instagram Live video.

During that Live, Jada shared her excitement about having found a new management team.

“Mi excited fi see how everything a go turn out. Mi cya wait fi drop new music,” she said. “Mi waiting, just ready fi go crazy as I should have been doing from day f**king one… There’s just so much sh*t and how mi get by is creating music, laughing, see the good inna everything regardless. Everything a go work out,” she continued.

Jada Kingdom Reveal She’s Battling Bipolar Depression

Jada Kingdom reveals she’s battling bipolar depression as she pushed back at critics over her weight loss.

Jada Kingdom hit back at critics who have accused her of being on drugs. The criticism came after the “Best You Ever Had” singer posted several photos of her during a night out, looking slimmer than usual.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, the singer sent a harsh message to the naysayers. She wrote, “Note to hypocrites : F** YU! Guh look fi ah dog and s**k it hard. If losing all that weight means i’m sniffing coke then call me coke head Twinkle caz I LOVE IT HERE! neva been this happy. #2yearsoffighting I worked hard for this.”

The songstress continued, “living with bipolar depression opened my eyes to so much and i jus wanna say… F** yu! agen & agen, tf unu feel like #Cokeheadtwinkle.”

Still not satisfied with that post, Jada went on to address the issue further in her Instagram stories. In a series of videos, she vented, saying, “Hypocrites, hypocrites, get out of my DMs. Mi literally just see two female DM me basically saying don’t mind social media, and don’t follow what people ah say.. And dem two same page deh mi literally screenshot over another page ah done mi bout how yeah mon she deh pon coke fi true.. Look how she slim down and s**k out like bag juice.”

She expressed, “Mi no want nuh hypocrites as friends, family or fans, jus move from round mi..Come outta mi DM.”

She then jokingly added, “well call me cokehead Twinks cuz I love it here…mi love ova yah suh, mi love dis fi miself… Mi never happy so yet, a right yah suh mi a siddung and mi nah move.”

Not quite done, Jada further ranted, “Mi use to hear seh mi have elephantiasis, how mi look like Humpty Dumpty, mi look like Rolly Polly, mi look like Barney…the amount a tings mi use to hear, and a never lie, so weh mi duh, mi work pon it because mi never comfortable with myself neither.”

“Mi woulda understand if unuh see mi draw down inna the space of one month but a good two year now mi a go gym, mi a try eat right, mi switch to being pescatarian, mi leggo rice, mi a dis, mi a dat. Go s**k unuh madda,” she added.

Despite the negative criticisms, not everyone has been critical of the singer’s new body. Fans on Twitter have been showing her love with several reposting her latest images.

A post shared by ?????TWINKLE????? (@jadakingdom)

This is not the first time that Jada has addressed critics about her weight. In September last year the singer who at one point weighed 224 pounds wrote, “Yes, mi born big, mi born big, a wah? Yes mi was 17, mi born humungous, live with it!” This was after social media users commented on a video of her in a store, calling her out for being overweight.

Jada Kingdom is opening up about her struggles with bipolar depression and has been very opened to her fans about her struggles with weight, being sexually abused at a young age, and other hardships she faced growing up in Jamaica. Dancehall veteran Spice, took the time to show Jada love and support, commenting under her various posts and her subsequent clap-back to the critics. Spice herself has experience of this type of criticism from trolls online. She has faced a lot of negative comments for her weight and skin color over the years and has always been very vocal about it.

While Jada Kingdom is no stranger to hate mail on social media, it’s certainly a positive to see her facing it head on and getting the support not just from her fans, but also from her peers in the industry like Spice.

Jada Kingdom Forges Ahead With Racy Performance In Connecticut Despite Lawsuit

Jada Kingdom is back on the scene as she proves that nothing can stop her, including a lawsuit or any other adversity.

The young deejay delivered a sexy performance in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on Saturday night to raving crowds as she delivered her bangers “Heavy,” “Win,” and “Shake” – her song with her and Skillibeng.

Jada Kingdom entered what looked like a packed auditorium wearing a pleated skirt and long sleeve top. She later ditched the skirt to reveal an all-black bodysuit with black pantyhose. Fans were also amused by her dancing skills as they grabbed her fluffy derriere.

Kingdom also shared what seems like a loaded message to someone as she posted “Yuh cya stap mi, bumbohole!!!” on her story while her song “Win” played in the background. It is speculated that the message is directed to her former management, who filed a lawsuit for libel.

The manager filed the lawsuit following explosive comments by the deejay that someone close to her has been robbing her for years, and she has not made money from any of her music, including streaming.

The manager has asserted that he has contributed to Kingdom’s career and that he has not been dishonest in his dealings with her. Kingdom has not responded to the lawsuit, which, if she fails to reply, can see a default judgment entered against her.

In previous live videos, she has stated that she has attorneys on the case and that she is also looking for new management to manage her. Jada Kingdom appears to now be resident in Atlanta, Georgia, as she continues her career in music.

Jada Kingdom Hit With Defamation Lawsuit By Her Manager

Jada Kingdom is facing a multi-million dollar defamation lawsuit from her management company, Pop Style Music Publishing and her manager, whose name in the lawsuit is listed as ‘Pop Style.’

Ronald Young, Attorney-at-law from the law firm Young Law, filed the lawsuit on behalf of Pop Style and his company at the Supreme Court in Downtown Kingston. The lawsuit comes after recent explosive comments made by Jada Kingdom, whose real name is Jada Ashanti Murphy, alleged in an Instagram video last week that her manager was robbing her for years as she details the many instances that she has not been able to earn income from her music or publishing and her streaming.

The Manager and management company is suing for libel based on Jada Kingdom’s comments made on April 13, accusing them of “scam.”

According to the Claim Form and Particulars of claim filed in the suit, Pop Style and his company allege that Kingdom went on her social media platform and “knowingly made false allegations which suggested that her manager and management team were dishonorable in their financial dealings with her.”

The documents went on to say that at the time the defendant Jada Kingdom made the allegations to her large fan base, she “knew the claims she made are damaging and false.”

The lawsuit wants Jada Kingdom to pay general damages, interest on damages, and also to issue a public apology to her management team and its Principal.

In an affidavit filed along with the Claim form and Particulars of claim, the manager says he has worked with the artiste for the past four years, and he has “done nothing but believe in the artiste and support her on an emotional, financial and professional level.”

While some news media are quoting the lawsuit as being filed by Kingdom’s manager, the artiste said on the alleged incriminating video that she is currently out of management and looking to rebuild a new team to manage her.

The lawsuit went on to say that the contract that exists between Jada and the management is one that is “normal” in the music industry. He added that the agreement between Kingdom and the team permits him to recoup his investment against her future earnings.

Additionally, the investments he has made in Kingdom’s career to date are substantially unrecouped.

The ex-manager also says he was shocked to hear Kingdom “spew such libelous bile and defamatory untruths” about him “in her recent Instagram Live rant is appalling and something she should be ashamed of.”

He added that Kingdom cannot deny that he has made a positive impact on her career and personal life.

So far, Jada Kingdom has not responded to the lawsuit. Based on the legal process, she has 42 days to file an acknowledgment of service and defense in the lawsuit.

In the video that the ex-manager references, Jada Kingdom did not call names but her emphasis on seeking new management and allegations that those closest to her were stealing from her led fans to believe that her comments were directed to her manager

“It very f**king f**k up…You’re working so hard, you see where mi come from, like, very f**king upsetting, very sad,” she began. “But all mi a seh is, I just can’ wait for this next chapter in my life. We’re going crazy, but for now mi just ah deal with everything the right way, I’m looking for new management, new team, everything.”

The artiste says she has retained lawyers who are handling the matter and she is also now reassembling everything, which includes new booking information and working out her new music, which is around 30-50 song catalog. She says she is working on a new album that is almost finished, but she has certain loose ends to tie up to ensure that the album is not tied up in controversy or that the manager lays claim to income from it.

“Mi lawyers are very active and we’re going to win. We God Bless. But mi need fi wait for certain things clear up, guys mi barely see dollar from my music…right now mi sit down pon over 10 hit songs but mi nah drop them because it’s like why mi woulda release music mi nah go gain off of. You understand. So that’s why I said I would wait and don’t drop no music even if I don’t have to drop music this year.”

Jada Kingdom burst out on the scene as a talented 20-year-old in 2017 when she first featured in Sean Kingston’s “One Away” as his love interest. Her debut song “Love Situations” was released on July 21, 2017. She quickly drew the attention of those in the industry as one to watch with her EP “Wull On,” which led to Universal Music signed and released her two singles, “Wull On” and “Best You Ever Had.”

The artist says she has been putting in the work over the years but feels like she is not making strides in her career or the music industry.

“Sleepless nights a studio and work like f**king hog, never even deh deh, they are never around but when money come around they want to scrape and thief,” she began. “Mi feel mi put in too much for all of this. And the same people weh a see you go through so much f*ckery are the ones putting you in this.”

Kingdom also alleged that she has been denied any access to financial statements from the digital platforms or direct access to log into the accounts to know what her earnings are. She also said she was an independent artist and was not under contract, but no money came to her but rather to her management.

“I remember two years ago, mi a ask and mi a say, like how a me alone deh pon the road. How mi nuh have a team, like what really a gwan, everything was a set up this entire. This person would only use people weh him know fi do certain things fi me. Tell me say ‘oh artiste can’t have access to them YouTube and dem iTunes, Spotify,’ this that don’t happen,” she said.

She did say, however, that she was signed to a distribution contract, but she does not know what the details are, and how much money the distribution contract is making from her music, or how much of it she gets in income versus what the distribution company gets.

Dancehall Divas Unite: Spice, Jada Kingdom & Shaniel Muir Shows Unity At Houston Show

Women in dancehall are showing a united front amidst a history of rifts and contention in the genre.

While dancehall is famous for its rhythmic insatiability and influential sounds, it is also a community that has sadly come to be associated with a lot of infighting. Whether it be among male or female artists, there always seems to be some beef happening at any given time. Following an unfortunate history of people being pit against each other, some of the women in the dancehall community have come together to show that it’s possible for female artists to be great friends after all.

Love and Hip Hop Atlanta star Spice is still looked at as one of the top female dancehall stars internationally, and while she has stepped into different roles as a reality TV star and a host for her very own talk show, she never neglected the genre. It is because of this why the fan-proclaimed Queen of dancehall is still regarded so highly in the dancehall arena and why her undeniable influence still reigns supreme.

They say a picture says a thousand words, and with her latest Instagram post, Spice made quite a statement. The “Frenz” deejay shared an Instagram post of herself in the company of dancehall divas Jada Kingdom and Shaneil Muir. The three ladies came together at Gal Farm, The Houston Edition, an event in Houston, Texas, last night where Spice delivered a riveting performance that proved that she is still “Queen of the stage.”

In the photo reel that the dancehall star posted, the women who are seated on a bench appear to be commemorating a great night and an even better performance with a photo-op, looking radiant in their fashionable ensembles. In the caption that accompanied the post that has garnered over 100K likes in less than 24 hours, Spice playfully wrote, “Listen every one a the picture dem blurry cause dem 2 big woman yah couldn’t stay still. I never laugh so yet @jadakingdom @shaneilmuir unu nuh have no behavior #WomanPower #dancehallmusic.”

Jada Kingdom returned an equally playful comment, writing, “Dwl a who dem ppl yah???” she wrote. “Si how mi tell yuh sen mi di rawse pic dem an allllll noooowww!!!” the “Banana” hitmaker said in a separate comment with a series of laughing emojis. “So yuh really mean fi tell me say a really two good pic we get,” Shaneil Muir also commented, “love the vibes #WomanPower.”

Fans by the thousands took to the comments to show some love to the dancehall stars dropping off flames and red hearts in support of the ladies. “Love to see it!!!!” several fans commented. “My girls,” one fan wrote, tagging all three women, “love still a keep.” While a majority of the photos were unclear, like Spice said, it was still indicative of one hell of a night. One fan acknowledged this in the comments writing, “This giving me ‘hangover’ girls trip vibes,” she wrote, “the morning after.”

In a heartfelt dedication, one comment lauded Spice, Jada, and Shaneil for their hard work and talent. “Y’all represented Jamaica well. We are indeed proud. Three beautiful, hardworking and dedicated ladies. Please continue make us proud and never lose hope doesn’t matter how hard things might get. Keep pressing with God all things are possible. Talent over hype right desso,” the fan wrote.

It’s rare that we get to see women in dancehall showing some public love and support, and fans are hoping that Spice’s post will incite a trend. What has already ensued is the call for a music collaboration among the three ladies. While it would have been nice to see Shenseea, a part of the gang, her absence did not deter from the promise of unity.

As Sean Paul recently set out to show, dancehall should consider “collaboration over confrontation,” and the concept has become more and more prevalent. Perhaps Spice was the catalyst needed to break that stigma for the women. One thing is for sure, and that is we have a consensus – dancehall fans definitely want to see more of this unity in 2021.

Shenseea Exposed On IG And Shade Spice, “Your face is where my throne is”

Shenseea exposed her kitty on the Gram while seemingly shading Spice is what dancehall fans are talking about this weekend.

Social media users have been speculating for weeks now about a possible feud brewing between Shenseea and Spice. These speculations first began following a social media post by Spice after she was acknowledged by fellow dancehall artiste Jada Kingdom. Jada lauded Spice as a mentor and gave her credit for paving the way for females in the dancehall industry.

In response, Spice thanked Jada and stated that it was the first time she was being tagged in a post by another female artiste in the business saying that they learned from her. Of course, social media users were quick to point out that Shenseea has in the past also acknowledged Spice for her work ethics and dedication to the music industry. All this did not go down well with ShenYeng, and since then, both artists have even reportedly unfollowed each other on social media.

If the above did not confirm some sort of beef between the two, Shenseea’s latest claim to the throne may have just solidified that there is some form of rivalry. The “Lighter” singer is currently in Atlanta, which is where the current queen of dancehall, Spice, has one of her dwellings. She decided to share a very naughty post with the following caption: “I’m a Queen, your face is where my throne is.”

Of course, some were quick to point out that she was throwing shade at Spice. It should be noted that neither women have actually come forward to confirm or deny if they are at odds.

Still, some persons are not sold on the idea that her caption was intended for Spice. Others have deduced that her play on words is simply a window into her wild and dominant sexual desires. That line of argument was supported by those who believed the 24-year-old was not wearing any underwear below her kinky, little, black dress. Nonetheless, dancehall’s self-proclaimed princess can do no wrong in the eyes of her fans, and the 355,000 likes and over 6000 comments the photo has received seem to prove this. One wonders if this new photo is also generating more publicity for her upcoming show in Atlanta.

You can check out Shenseea’s IG page and peep her photo.

Dancehall Artists Spice & Shenseea Unfollowed Each Other On IG As Beef Intensified

Spice and Shenseea have both unfollowed each other on Instagram fueling more rumors about a brewing beef.

Trouble seems to be brewing between Spice and Shenseea as the two women who were previously chummy have unfollowed each other on social media and fans are speculating that the two have had a tense relationship after since Spice’s religious advisor disclosed that he told Spice not to collaborate with Shenseea because she would outshine Spice and take her place in dancehall.

Shenseea and Spice have never collaborated even though the “Shengyeng Anthem” deejay has said that she was interested in doing collaborations but nobody wants to collaborate with her.

In December of 2020 while on a live video she responded to fans who asked why she hasn’t done many collaborations. “guys, it’s not that I don’t try to do collaborations eneuh, especially with Jamaican artists, it’s just dem nuh waan do none wid me, really and truly. My manager has reached out to a lot of females, dem nuh waan do nuh song wid mi suh weh me fi do?”

Fans had previously felt that Shenseea’s song ‘Upset’ was indirectly targeted at Spice after Nardo ‘RT Boss’ Smith disclosed that the Queen of Dancehall did not want to collaborate with Shenseea. In the song Shenseea said “a prayer carry meh, me bun wickedness and iniquity…” which many felt was a subtle diss to Spice and the obeah rumours engulfing her.

Things got to a head on Monday as the two unfollowed each other on Instagram. Shenseea’s manager Romeich Major has also unfollowed Spice both have remained mum on the Spice created drama.

Fans speculated that that the brewing animosity stems from a post made by Jada Kingdom that spice reposted. Jada Kingdom thanked fans in West Palm beach Florida where she performed and she said “…a million thanks to my mentor @spiceofficial I love you queen. Nuff artist nuh wah big up who come before dem m& give credit to who dem learn from.. mi nava dat inna mi.”

Spice in reposting the caption said “thanks @jadakingdom your appreciation means a lot to me. In all my years in this industry I’ve never been tagged by a female artist to say they watched and learned anything from me. You told me even on Club House that you use to sit and watch my performances and look at you now, mashing up every where you go. Big up uself Mumma heavy your heart speaks volumes. I’m a big fan I’m so proud of you and your growth is impeccable.”

However, fans came with receipt and called out Spice for being shady with the post. On on comment by a fan who said the post had more shade than bench under mango tree, a Shenseea fan came to the defence- “talk truth!!!! Cause @shenseea big her up when she did her interview on Elle. Smh then she talk bout people ungrateful.”

Another fan said “she said shi listen Spice music too, before yu tlk watch di video, shi even said Spice taught her how tu ride the riddim nd a lot mre, unu just hate di grl fhi no reson at all. Another fan called Spice a vile person given all the problems she has been encountering regarding her dancers who alleged that Spice under paid them. “@youluvkells said “I used to be a big fan of you over the years! But as soon as new artists came up in dancehall, the new situation with your dancers and now your recent post with Jada Kingdom shows me what disgusting vile person you are. There are many female artists who have looked up to you and you single out one just because she mentioned it on social media?

Meanwhile viral site The Tropixs came with the receipts as they reposted several of Shenseea’s posts in which she shared her respect for Spice. In one post Shenseea says “I have a different level of respect for you…Spice a di Queen,” she validated Spice.

Shenseea & Govana Earns Top Honors In Dancehall In 2020, Koffee Dropped Biggest Song

Shenseea and Govana earned top honors in dancehall last year.

If there was a word to describe 2020 when it comes to entertainment, we might go with the words of Spice, who said she didn’t make any money in 2020 due to the pandemic causing the industry to lock down and losing J$26.1 Billion in revenue. Things in Jamaica officially locked down in March 2020 as news spread that the covid-19 virus was deadly and highly contagious, and almost 10 months later, there is no ending in sight as yet.

The unique nature of the Jamaican entertainment industry, in particular, has placed the livelihood of many in the industry in a precarious position. Unlike the United States Recording industry, where artists depend on streams and sales, Jamaican artistes rely on tours and live performances locally and abroad. When things locked down, forcing a ban on events and gatherings, the primary sources of income for artistes were cut.

However, the challenges have not stopped those who are high performers as they pivoted to manage the new hardships. Instead of focusing on what was lost, many took to the studios to produce and release good music as they focused on streaming. Although some events moved online like Verzuz, Reggae Sumfest, Reggae Sunsplash, and various live corporate events, including Friday parring with Coppershot Music and other local DJs.

Among those being recognized as consistent performers are Shenseea and Govana, who pulled off the Female and Male Entertainer of the Year awards respectively by the Jamaica Gleaner’s 2020 Year in Review.

Both have been able to perform at an unrivaled level, releasing a number of singles that adds to their growing catalogues. Among Shenseea’s hits for the year are the releases of “Side Chick,” and “Lighter” – an international banger with Tarrus Riley cementing her growth as an artiste. Shenseea’s streams have been nothing short of admirable as she racked up 35 million views for the song and trending in the number one spot for weeks.

She also released a number of other singles, including “Silver Tongue Devil” featuring American-Jamaican Saxophonist Masego. She also released the catchy “Sure Sure,” “Bad Alone,” “Good Comfort,” “Rebel,” “Wasabi,” and “Zum.” Shenseea has arguably released more hits than any other artiste and is deserving of the award.

It was not all smooth sailing for Shenseea, who also lost her mother to cancer in June. However, in spite of that, she continued working and has reaped the rewards with a lucrative Pretty Little Thing endorsement deal and launching her eyelashes line.

Govana secured the Male artiste of the year award with his Convo series making it not only a hilarious mini-movie but catchy song and lyrics. Fans excitedly waited as the series was released in parts. ‘Likkle Bit a Money’ was also a hit so much so that the slang is now used in arguments and even quoted in the House of Representatives by the Local Government Minister as used as a point of defiance by those who broke the Disaster Risk Management Law.

Meanwhile Skillibeng on the other hand was breakthrough male artiste for the year. The artiste released hit after hit even though many said he’d be a one-hit-wonder with “Brik pan Brik.” He proved otherwise with the release of “Torpedo,” “Shake” featuring Jada Kingdom, and the banger “Crocodile Teeth.” Among his wins for the year are signing an international recording deal with Sony/ATV at the end of 2020.

Meanwhile, Shaneil Muir was recognized as Breakthrough Artiste of the Year by the Jamaica Gleaner. Among her biggest songs were “Yamabella,” definitely an independent ladies’ anthem as it rebukes women who act foolish to please men.

The artiste shared the news on her Instagram, thanking her fans for their support “TOP GYAL, grateful for the love.

Many artists in the industry sent their congratulations, including Jada Kingdom, who said “well deserved” Shenseea with heart emojis. Seanibremix, Cecile who said, “you deserve this Shaneil. Congrats. Mi Luv u eeesi.” Shaneil is definitely one to watch as she shows her versatility and creativity with “Same Guy” with Good Good Productions label-mate Denyque, who returned to music in 2020 after the birth of her daughter.

Koffee’s “Lockdown” was also recognized by the Gleaner as the Song of the Year, and we can see why as Koffee with Popcaan and others really gave us hope as many made plans post lockdown. We’re still looking on for the silver lining that we are sure will be coming in a few months with the advent of several vaccines now available to treat the spread of Covid.

Watch Jada Kingdom New Video “Unwanted”

Jada Kingdom debut her new video “Unwanted” just in time for the holidays.

The cut was directed by Warrior Films and featured the dancehall singer taking a shower before bending down on her knees for a prayer. God finally answered her prayer and when she woke up she found the man of her dreams in her bed. While living out her fantasies it turns out her new man is really a manikin and people started looking at her in dismay.

“No have no time fi slow down, and I won’t let you do this on your own, So put your wait pon me, I can tell that your too weak, Still them don’t see it yet, they can’t come your way I mean it, put yo pon lock and throw away the key,” Jada Kingdom sings.
